Title: Cosmological distances and other usual suspects

Abstract: Using the different definitions of distance we find in cosmology as the backbone of the seminar, introductory aspects of cosmology are visited. Different astrophysical probes allow to test different models of the Universe, under the assumption of large scale homogeneity and isotropy. A sketch is presented of the features of those models and their ability to explain the history of the universe and the current acceleration. Statistical topics and numerics are discussed very briefly but the audience should not leave the seminar thinking they are unimportant. Future prospects on promising surveys are outlined to convince young candidates that cosmology is an exciting field to pursue as a career.
