Gauge-gravity duality

Following the success of the gauge/gravity correspondence for spacetimes that are asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS), a recent focus has been the study of generalisations to other spacetimes, such as Lifshitz, Schr¨odinger, hyperscaling violating, warped AdS and flat space. These present a great opportunity to extend our understanding of holography beyond the AdS/CFT context. This is expected to provide novel insights into quantum gravity and black hole physics in general, but also present interesting applications to understand strongly coupled field theories with non-relativistic scaling including hydrodynamics via the study of Lifshitz black brane solutions. The boundary geometry in these generalized setups have recently been discovered to be new extensions (with torsion) of Newton-Cartan geometry and making such geometries dynamical a connection to Horava-Lifsthiz gravity has been found.
