Quasi-local black hole horizons: Review and recent results

In this talk I will describe a quasi-local framework for understanding diverse aspects black hole physics without using event horizons. This framework is based on trapped surfaces and leads to the notions of isolated and dynamical horizons. I will present a review of the basic methods and some recent results.
